We've had many customers asking about tariffs and how they may affect their reservations and incoming orders. Government tariffs are now being charged to manufacturers of most model train products. These tariff rates vary depending on the originating country. Our pricing for reservations does not include tariff surcharges as they will change again prior to the product's arrival. As new items come into our store, the pricing will be adjusted to reflect the applicable nation's tariffs applied by the manufacturer at that time.
The US Government is ending the practice of allowing shipments of goods into the United States made in China, duty free, using the de minimus exemption. The de minimis exemption has allowed goods valued at or below $800, per person, per day, to be imported duty free.
The US government is disallowing this exemption as of May 1, 2025. This means that goods coming from China and other countries will be assessed a tariff when they enter the United States. The tariff assigned to the goods is based on the country where they were made, not from where they are being shipped. All shipments to US customers will be subject to the new tariff rate after May 1st. Tariffs are out of our control and are the responsibility of the customer.
Items that came into our inventory prior to tariffs will not change from their original posted price. This is a very fluid situation, and we will post more details as we receive them.
